No theft or insecurity on site!<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Getting_around_Crete\"><\/span>Getting around Crete<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Bus\"><\/span>Bus<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n<p>Crete is a huge island, with excellent bus connections, but a car is the best solution in my opinion. It gives you the freedom to be independent of bus schedules, and you can also visit places where bus connections aren&#8217;t so frequent. <\/p>\n\n<p>Crete is easy to explore by bus &#8211; they&#8217;re reliable, cheap, comfortable and in most cases have air-conditioning. The main towns on the north coast of Chania, Rethymnon, Heraklion and Agios Nikolaos all have bus stations where you can then access many of the island&#8217;s rural areas. <\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Uber\"><\/span>Uber<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n<p>Uber Cab fares in Crete are set by the Uber Mobile application. The fare takes into account the distance traveled and the time required to complete the transport in Crete. <\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Cab\"><\/span>Cab<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n<p>Are cabs expensive in Crete?<\/p>\n\n<p>Cabs in Crete use a distance-based taximeter to calculate the cost of your journey. These rates are highly regulated by the Greek government. You can expect to pay :  <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>a basic rate of \u20ac1.20,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>then a rate per km of \u20ac0.74 during the day (from 05:00 to 24:00)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>and \u20ac1.29 per night (from 24:00 to 05:00).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"When_to_visit_Crete_during_the_year\"><\/span>When to visit Crete during the year?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n<p>As with many popular tourist destinations, we obviously recommend visiting Crete around the months of July and August:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>or May-June<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>or September-October<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>These are the perfect times to take advantage of sunshine that&#8217;s not too harsh, and crowds that aren&#8217;t too big.<\/p>\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.la-crete-autrement.com\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Crete<\/a> is a large island with so much to offer. You&#8217;re surrounded by beautiful beaches, archaeological sites, small islands, gorges and historic towns. To see all the &#8220;best sites&#8221;, it will take a minimum of 10 days &#8211; 2 weeks, however, you could easily spend 4 weeks and still have more to see.<\/p>\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote has-text-align-center is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em><strong>July is generally the hottest month, with an average temperature of 30\u00b0C, and receives the least amount of rain during the summer.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n<p>Southern Crete is generally a few degrees warmer (but water temperatures are roughly similar). You&#8217;ll need to go to Ammoudara beach or, even better, Paleokastro beach, but you&#8217;ll need to hire a car or scooter. Chania is a better option, not least because of the very Venetian charm of its port, as you can see in the photo above.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Western_Crete\"><\/span>Western Crete<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n<p>Generally speaking, western Crete is often considered the most beautiful part of the island. Why is that? <\/p>\n\n<p>Probably because of its landscapes.<\/p>\n\n<p>Starting with the multicolored Balos Beach lagoon, which we&#8217;ve already mentioned. A wonderful place with crystal-clear water similar to that of the Caribbean. Or the island of Gramvoussa, not far from Balos.  <\/p>\n\n<p>Another heavenly lagoon in western Crete: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.la-crete-autrement.com\/en\/elafonissi-beach-absolute-must-see-of-crete\/\">Elafonisi<\/a>. May brings warmer waters and beautiful wild flowers that can be spotted at all the island&#8217;s natural attractions. <\/p>\n\n<p>Two weeks is a great length of time for a Greek vacation.
