“Seitan”, Turkish for “devil”, is still in use since the Ottoman occupation of Crete. According to the story, the name probably refers to the bare rocks surrounding the bay.
Recognized since 2015
Until 2015, Seitan Limania was one of the “secret beaches” of Crete. A Facebook influencer took a photo, put it on his wall and the image went viral. Local agencies have taken advantage of the trend and have started to promote excursions here.
But despite its name, Seitan Limania Beach is a breathtaking natural wonder. The crystal clear waters and towering rock formations make this place a paradise for lovers of breathtaking scenery.
Where is Seitan Limania in Crete?
Seitan Limania – also called the “Paralia of Stefanou” – is located just outside Chania, on the eastern coast of the Akrotiri peninsula. As you can see on the map above, the cove is located in the north of Crete

It is possible to reach Seitan Limania beach by car, public transport or boat. The best option is to rent a car at Chania airport for a 15 minute drive.
The path leading to this secret beach, also known as Stefanou beach, is a real natural jewel. Along this paved road, lined with rock formations, drivers will have to show skill and courage to reach their destination. If you have any doubts about your driving skills, it is best to take a boat. Although the road is winding and sometimes steep, experienced mountain road drivers should not encounter any difficulties. Moreover, the road has been recently tarred to guarantee a better driving comfort. The paved road descends sharply to a parking lot that serves the beach. The view of the sparkling sea and the imposing cliffs is simply breathtaking. Adventurers in search of wild landscapes and deserted beaches will be conquered by the beauty of this place.
If you don’t have a car, you can take the KTEL to the village of Chordaki, then follow the signs to the beach. If you are on a cruise, you can also take a boat to Seitan Limania beach.

When to go there?
The best time to visit Seitan Limania is between May and September, when the temperatures are milder and the sea is calm.
If you want to avoid the crowds, it is recommended to visit the beach outside the high tourist season, in May or September. If you decide to visit in the summer, it is advisable to leave early in the morning to avoid the intense heat of the afternoon and the crowds.
Tips: meet at Seitan Limania early in the morning. First of all because it’s beautiful, but also because around 11 am, many tourists start to arrive. This is the price of fame!
