In the heart of the city, between the pubs and restaurants, some wonderful buildings are hidden. You will have the opportunity to visit the church of Agios Nektarios, with its beautiful cream-colored facade. But don’t be fooled by its sober exterior, it is decorated with splendid colorful frescoes.
If the beach is reserved for parties, a few kilometers away, near the mountains, the atmosphere changes completely. Malia is home to one of the most important archaeological sites of Crete: the third largest Minoan palace on the island.
All around this ruin lie the remains of the ancient city. You will be able to observe in particular sublime jars of epoch, reconstituted from pieces discovered on the spot. The Port of Malia
Small port with a slow activity during the off season but with a little charm despite everything. It’s not a must-see in the region but it’s a pretty nice place.
